People Places Things (2015)

-Watched at the SIE Film Center in Denver-

Shit man, if you’re a younger woman and wanna watch a film and unexpectedly fall in love with a middle-aged man and start thinking about how nice it might be to settle down, here ya go. Ok, so maybe that might be a little specific to me. I realize I’m way late to jump on the Jemaine Clement bandwagon, but hot damn. He is incredibly charming and need I mention, hilarious. A few months ago I was at a film fest party in LA and my friend told me she had just accidentally walked in on him pissing in the bathroom and now suddenly I’m jealous of her eyeballs. He single-handedly carried this film with his heart-breaking sincerity. I will now catch up with 2007 and the rest of you hip kids by watching Flight of the Concords.

The film is an honest portrayal of a man catching his wife screwing another man at their daughters’ birthday party and dealing with the subsequent divorce that follows. Through his loneliness he tries to focus on his job, creative work, dating and being the best father he can be to his adorable twin daughters.

When I got to the theatre I was throwing a fit like a 13-year-old girl over some dumb stuff and felt embarrassed because I couldn’t help but smile and giggle during the film. Film-1, Dawn-0. I tried to keep my laughter hidden from my boyfriend but I think he knew I was enjoying it. I couldn’t help it! If you wanna sit back, laugh and casually reflect on your life for 85 minutes, give it a whirl.
